You couldn't be further away from Prison Architect with Introversion Software's latest game. But they're known for handling something radically different each time. Scanner Sombre is no exception.
Planned for release tomorrow through the usual channels, the group has issued the game's official launch trailer. For a whole 49 seconds you'll watch as a a simplistic looking scanner becomes the go-to tool of choice in an otherwise pitch black environment.
Coming straight from the trailer itself, the quick-fire narrative of Scanner Sombre is laid out as follows; "Regaining consciousness you smell the damp. Opening your eyes you see the stone walls of the chamber flickering by the light of the fire; you stumble to your feet and kick a helmet clattering across the floor. Slowly the ache in your head begins to subside and you notice the beginnings of a passage. After a few steps the darkness consumes you. Returning to the safely of the fire you see a LIDAR scanner on the floor - a trigger press results in a faint glow coming from inside the helmet. You put the helmet on, adjust the beam-width and proceed into the abyss."
Prison Architect's Last Update Went Live In August 2016
As you might be able to gather from the trailer down below, Scanner Sombre is all about the titulat LIDAR scanner mentioned in the description up above. Venturing into the dark unknown, it's laser systems are the only thing between asbolute nothingness and a faintly visible platform seperating you from life and death. You can't see a thing before your scanner is able to map out the rock formations in front of you and the terrain at your feet. Without it, you're utterly blind.
Coming from Introversion Software, Scanner Sombre is the group's sixth big release after classics like DEFCON, Uplink and Prison Architect. It releases tomorrow, April 26.
