Blizzard is one of the most beloved, successful, and exciting developers around, and when they announce a new game the entire internet shuts up and listens. So if Blizzard casually announce TWO new games, one a First-Person title presumably related to Overwatch, and an MMO RTS, we'd probably have a heart attack - and they just have, thanks to job listings on their website. Get the defibrillator ready, but unfortunately one of them isn't for PC.
The Best Strategy Games on PC! Blizzard might have one or two on there...
The Best Starcraft Mods around!
The job postings are all based at Blizzard's offices in Irvine, California, and are for various positions for both known games such as Overwatch and Hearthstone as well as "unannounced projects". Obviously we're more interested in the latter.
The listings for various Software engineers reveal that they're working on "a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project". This could very well be related to their other smash hit first-person title Overwatch, perhaps even Overwatch 2 with a brand new engine? Even a fresh new FPS would be great from Blizzard. They also note it needs to be "visually stunning", which normally Blizzard aren't too concerned with - they go for style rather than power usually.
The other job posting is for a Senior Client Engineer, specifically for another "unannounced project". Here are the details when they reveal what that project is:
"Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced Unity mobile client engineer to work on an unannounced MMO RTS project. The ideal applicant has an unwavering passion for mobile development and solving engineering problems unique to mobile app environments. If you thrive in an environment that values creativity, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, then drop us a line!"
It's great news that Blizzard are working on a game that combines World of Warcraft with regular Warcraft, but less exciting that it's on mobiles despite the excellence of Hearthstone.
The certainty of both these projects however is that they're a long time away, meaning the First-Person project could conceivably be Overwatch 2. The mobile MMO RTS could be much sooner as it'll undoubtedly be a simpler game. The other certainty is that both will destroy the world and make Blizzard loads of money. For now though... best keep playing Overwatch. And Hearthstone. And World of Warcraft. And Starcraft II. And Heroes of the Storm. And all the feckin' rest...
