Obsidian recently announced that the whole cast of Critical Role would appear in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, lending their voices to various characters in the world of Eora. Further collaboration between the two groups will also bring a free DLC pack based on the Dungeons and Dragons characters played by the cast of Critical Role.
Critical Role is a weekly show airing on the Geek & Sundry Twitch channel, which sees a group of known voice actors playing Dungeons and Dragons together. In their campaign, their characters have banded together to form a group called Vox Machina, the core members of which mostly remained unchanged. In addition to their voice work as unrelated characters, Critical Role will be represented in the game with a free DLC pack adding the voices of these characters, and a set of 8 portraits players can pick for their characters.
The portraits are based on the Critical Role characters. The characters are, left to right: Vex’ahlia, Scanlan, Pike, Percy, Keyleth, Grog, Vax’ildan and Gilmore. These will be available for players to set as their Watcher’s portrait, and the Critical Role cast have also recorded voice snippets for the player character. Since the dialogue isn’t voiced on the Watcher’s side (as that would be a colossal undertaking for the developers), the voice only manifests as short contextual comments like “I can’t go there”, “On it” and “RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH”, but you’ll be hearing the voices of the team nonetheless.
Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is launching on the 8th of May, and pre-loading on Steam is already available. Our review is in-progress.
