Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is taking things in a new direction with a decidedly lighter tone with Night On Endor, a new free update which brings a limited-time event as well as reinstates microtransactions into the game for the first time since EA opted to remove premium purchases following a controversy around the game’s lootboxes.
The new limited event, Ewok Hunt, is a silly and thoroughly entertaining game mode which pits a small group of Imperial Stormtroopers against a planet’s worth of Ewoks. The Ewoks are small, weak, lightly armed but numerous, and as a group can potentially overwhelm the bigger, stronger and better-equipped Stormtroopers. As the troopers, you need to survive until an extraction team can save you from your furry deaths, while the goal of the Ewoks is simple - kill all troopers before they get evacuated.
Each time a Stormtrooper falls, a new Ewok enters the battle. Equipped only with spears, a few choice abilities and bolstered by allied Wisties, the natives of Endor need to rely on numbers or stealth to escape the blasters of the Stormtroopers. The resulting encounters and battles are among the most fun as well as funniest the game has to offer. Ewok Hunt has kicked up quite the storm online, so much so that a developer at DICE suggested on Twitter that the mode may become a permanent addition to the game.
This update also marks the return of the game’s premium currency, Crystals. The microtransaction system has been overhauled since the controversy, with only visual items being available for real-world currency. Items that directly affect gameplay and progression still cannot be purchased with Crystals. The reintroduction also brings with it 50 new visual customization items for you to spend your Crystals on, including Endor themed skins for Han and Leia.
