Overload is a spiritual successor to Descent, with some of the same developers working on it. A six-degree-of-freedom zero-gravity shooter, Overload puts you into the cockpit of a highly maneuverable starship and sends you into tight tunnels and cramped rooms filled with various mechanic enemies that explode in a flashy shower of sparks. Developer and publisher Revival Productions has announced a release date for the title, and fans don't have to wait long.
Overload, which entered into Early Access in March 2017, has received positive feedback from players and the developers have been working hard to iron out the kinks. The game is almost ready for prime-time, and will be released in full on the 31st of May, 2018 on Steam. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be launched in Q3 2018.
The full feature set of the release will include a narratively driven, fully voice-acted campaign spanning 15 levels that players can tackle at 6 different difficulty settings. Additional modes include Challenge Mode, with two variants spanning 12 levels, Multiplayer and a training stage. Steam achievements will be present, and no doubt will be translated to the console versions as well. Overload also ships with full VR support for both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. We would assume that it will be made available for PSVR later down the line too, but we'll have to confirm that.
Revival Productions already has ideas for post-launch content, including a level editor that will allow players to make custom maps and even campaigns. Overload has a free demo on Steam containing a single campaign level and two challenge mode levels, allowing players to take the game for a spin before committing to a purchase.
Overload will launch on the 31st of May, 2018 via Steam.
