Far Cry 5 launches today and brings a new method of levelling up your character called Perks, gained based on challenges rather than XP. It can be a little confusing, so we've put together a Far Cry 5 Perks Guide, covering how to find Perks, the best Perks to Unlock and how to use them!
Here's everything you need to know about Perks in Far Cry 5!

Perk Types
There are 5 Categories of Perk in Far Cry 5, which are:
- Survivalist - health, hunting and, well, survival focused
- Renegade - weapon and getting around focused
- Assassin - get around silently and with more skill
- Prepper - carry more ammo and gear, and the all-important extra weapon slot
- Leader - bonuses for your various allies.
- Health Boost - boosts your health, otherwise you're quite weak
- Additional Holster - expensive, but it's desperately needed, especially if you want to carry that bow around
- Grapple - you won't be able to get some places without it
- Parachute - only one point and you'll stop yourself from dying if you fall, and it looks cool too. Plus you need it to unlock the Wingsuit, which is a Far Cry requirement
- Leadership - unlocks being able to have more than one ally, which is 100% necessary
- Human Fish - sounds ridiculous, but if you swim at all at the beginning of the game you'll know that your character moves painfully slowly in the water. This is only one point and it frees you from that pain

How To Get Perk Points
You get Perk Points through Challenges for the most part. There are four types of Perk Challenges in Far Cry 5 and here are the best things to do in them:
- Assault - Challenges based on how many kills you have, such as weapons, headshots, silent kills, etc. These are the easiest to get quickly, but we suggest focusing on a weapon or kill type to get points quickly.
- World - Consume homeopathic medicines, use the wingsuit, save hostages, and play co-op. There should really be more in this category (exploring?), but that's your lot. You get the most for playing 1 hour of co-op, so if you've got a friend with the game try it out.
- Guns For Hire - command and get kills with all your various allies. Make sure to order your allies to attack, and don't steal their kills.
- Hunting - hunting is still a part of Far Cry 5, but there's no more crafting. Instead you just sell skins for money and killing animals nets you challenge points here. Make sure you loot/skin them afterwards. Eagles, grizzly bears, cougars, moose, bison and caribou are worth the most. And you might want to try fishing.

Prepper Stashes
If you find a Prepper Stash somewhere, either through a clue from something you've read or you've just arrived at the right location, make sure to figure it out. They are always full of cool rewards, and are guaranteed to unlock a few Perk Points. You may need to solve a puzzle to get to them though.
Far Cry Arcade
If you're planning to venture into Far Cry Arcade, the map creator, any Perk Points you earn there will be available to you in the main campaign - and vice versa. Neat trick if you're planning on using it.

Best Perks To Unlock
This is entirely up to you depending on your playstyle. Just remember that unlocking Perks is not a linear thing, unlike previous Far Cry games and most RPGs - with just a few exceptions, marked by an arrow, you can unlock any Perk at any time once you have the required number of points. Here are the general ones you should be getting first though:
