Amicia and Hugo de Rune’s journey through A Plague Tale: Requiem isn’t without obstacles and you can’t always get past them with a well-placed shot of your sling. Crafting is an invaluable tool in your arsenal, allowing you to use several resources to craft alchemical ammunition.
A Plague Tale: Requiem’s crafting system isn’t extremely complicated, but grasping its basics and where you can find the resources to channel Amicia’s inner alchemist is important if you plan on pushing back the tides of rats. Read on below to learn how it works.
A Plague Tale: Requiem Crafting, Alchemy, Resources
You can access A Plague Tale: Requiem’s crafting interface in two ways. One by pressing the I key and navigating to the first tab of the newly opened menu; another by pressing the Tab key.
The latter brings up a circular menu on the right side of the screen while greatly slowing down time. You move between different alchemical ammo types by pressing Q and E. In both cases, holding the left mouse button crafts your chosen item.
The circular menu is extremely useful when you need to quickly refill your ammo stocks while facing or sneaking past guards and is likely the one you’ll use the most.
A Plague Tale: Requiem gives you four types of alchemical ammunition that you can craft, each one having its own special uses.
- Ignifer - Mainly used to set embers, torches, grass, tar, and other flammable objects alight.
- Extinguis - Mainly used to extinguish fires.
- Tar - Mainly used to make fires stronger, stunning opponents and push rats further back, or create flammable surfaces.
- Odoris - Mainly used to attract rats to a specific place, freeing the way.
You can also use alchemical ammo to distract guards when push comes to shove. Depending on how you throw it, you’ll also get variations on their base effects.
If you plan on extinguishing a torch from a distance, you’ll use your loud but accurate sling. If you want to be quiet, ammo is best thrown by hand, but your range is limited. Using pots then usually applies the ammo’s effects to a larger area.
You can also mix some ammo types together to create occasionally devastating effects. Crafting each of the four requires two specific resources.
There are five total crafting resources in A Plague Tale: Requiem, four of which you’ll find in bigger or smaller crates spread around levels.
The fifth, Episanguis, becomes available past a certain point in the story and is found in certain rat-infested areas of the environment.
You can also tap into the three available alchemy upgrades, enabling Amicia to carry more ammo and use Ignifer and Odoris in deadly new ways.
If you want to make the most out of alchemy, the Opportunism tree also has several useful skills, including one which gives you a chance to not use resources when crafting ammo.
This is what you need to know about A Plague Tale: Requiem’s crafting, alchemy, and resources, to give you a head start when facing rats and hostile soldiers.
