Anthem’s Cataclysm season is finally live on all platforms, after being delayed indefinitely from its original planned release date of May.
Cataclysm is arguably the largest update Anthem has received since its rocky launch, introducing a new mode which changes the environment, new items, enemies, leaderboards and more.
Anthem Cataclysm
Cataclysm introduces a new mode that shakes Anthem’s gameplay up by applying pressure on Freelancers heading out into the world through a storm that damages Javelins.
To offset this, players can find arenas with rifts which, when closed, provide safety, grant tasks, increase available mission time or provide combat opportunities for loot, currency and leaderboards score. In Freeplay, Cataclysm will manifest in the form of events called Storm Gates.
Anthem also receives Inversions with the Cataclysm update, which add modifiers to missions, some granting bonuses, others raising the difficulty. Two new currencies, minor and major crystals, have also been added and can be earned in-game to be used for purchasing cosmetic items and War Chests which grant Cataclysm-specific non-cosmetics.
Players can also put these new toys to good use in three new story missions. There are other changes like the replacing of the Luck stat with bonus armor and addition of a Stronghold Chest at the end of each Legendary Contract.
