Anthem is an incredibly weird game in more ways than one, and if you've been keeping track of news and think you've got it all figured out by now, boy are you in for a treat with this latest reveal.
Anthem damage numbers lie to us, as it seems, because the starting assault rifle can easily out-damage a high-end masterwork weapon, notwithstanding the actual damage numbers that keep popping up as you hit the target. Quirky? Yes. Worrying? Aye.
This reveal comes after the aptly-named YeetLordSupreme posted his revelations on the game's official subreddit. According to his findings, " the default weapon you get when creating a new loadout, is better than any other weapon in the game!"
Quickly, other players caught on and started posting their own gifs documenting the phenomenon, proving that this isn't any sort of isolated bug or some such. It just so happens that damage numbers do not accurately reflect the damage that is dealt at all, seemingly across the board!
As per the tests conducted in the original post, the masterwork rifle that's being tested deals 1184 damage per shot, taking 6 shots to kill a regular Scar trooper. On the other hand, the regular level 1 Defender deals 286 damage and takes 4 shots to kill the very same Scar trooper. At this point, we just have to wonder what is even going on with Anthem's mathematics, because damage numbers are clearly just for show.
