A new mod for the original Call of Duty will allow players to play through the entire campaign with soldiers coated in Army Men colors ahead of the game’s 25th anniversary.
Army Men is, of course, named after the iconic figurines of the same name, and was released on PC and Gameboy Color all the way back in April 1998. The game is beloved by fans of the franchise for its emphasis on real-time strategy and the plot which saw Sarge and his soldiers caught up in a much larger conflict.
Army Men Call of Duty Mod
The Army Men mod for Call of Duty was posted to ModDB by user Onyenacho and is set to release on April 30th. Players will be able to coat their soldiers in the colors of their favorite army men with each side of World War 2 being color-coded.
American soldiers will be using the traditional green colors, British soldiers will be grey, and Russian soldiers will be red.
Walkthrough installments of the Call of Duty campaign with the Army Men mod applied will be posted to the Army Men Archives YouTube channel every day in the lead-up to release. The first video features the tutorial of the game and Captain Foley’s training camp.
OnyeNacho notes that the mod is still technically incomplete as character models from the game cannot be decompiled into Blender or 3DSMax. As such, the team cannot change textures to perfect the mod. In the meantime, files will be released in separate PK3 files to switch between manually when playing between the respective campaigns.
The post teases more to come and that the team will be moving on to try out the mod on Call of Duty 2.
