In an announcement that would best be described as ‘out of the left field’, Microids have just released a press statement saying that they have not one, but two Asterix & Obelix games in the making! One is a remaster of Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 from 2005, while the other is a proper continuation of the series: Asterix & Obelix XXL 3.
“It’s a great honor to put the Asterix and Obelix XXL series back at center stage! We are delighted to bring players a new game in this intergenerational franchise,” said Elliot Grassiano, the Vice-President of Microids.
Though little information has been released in regard to either of these games, the screenshot at the very start of this article represents the remaster in question. Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 Remastered will be available on November 29, 2018, on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, in what is likely an effort at bypassing the generational gap that exists between the older fans of Asterix and younger gamers who might not be familiar with the franchise. Consoles will also have access to two special editions of the game: Limited and Collector’s, each of which will feature an additional set of goodies to bolster the purchase.
For those who have already familiarised themselves not only with the franchise, but also with the XXL game series itself, Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 will certainly be the more interesting of the two titles. Again, there is painfully little information released about the game as of now, but we know that this will be an entirely original story set in a world that is faithful to that of the comic books, and that it will be coming to all platforms.
Players will be able to play either as Asterix or Obelix, alone or with a buddy, and fight, explore and solve puzzles in what will hopefully be a return to form for the series, the last instalment of which was released back in 2005.
As it stands, there is little more to add other than that we are hoping for the best for Asterix and Obelix.
