ATLAS, the pirate MMO from the makers of ARK: Survival Evolved, has not been doing all that well critically, following its heavily postponed Early Access release.
After we published an article on the game's original push-back, developers had to postpone the release of Atlas two more times, and it seems that not even that was enough to attain positive fan outlook, as the game is getting scathing Steam reviews nowadays.
According to purchasers, ATLAS is an ARK reskin, and one that's been severely undercooked at that, with extreme lag, too many bugs to keep track of, as-of-yet unfulfilled promises, and downright horrible performance. Sitting at mostly negative reviews, things aren't looking up for ATLAS.
"When I got into a server," said one reviewer citing spawn issues, "I got killed by 5 yetis instantly." They added that ATLAS is seemingly running at 30 FPS on a GTX 1070ti, which is also problematic, while the promised number of 40 000 players on a single massive server in actuality consists of about 150 spread-out instances, all of which "lag like crazy".
That said, some players have been able to have some fun with ATLAS, regardless of the fact that it's got numerous references to various ARK: Survival Evolved DLC, some of which even go so far as to appear in ATLAS's main menu. Hopefully, the developers will manage to turn this game around, but there seems to be a wide discrepancy between the trailers and the actual product still. Let us see what's made of it.
