It's been over three years since Batman Arkham Knight, the last game in the Batman Arkham saga and series creators Rocksteady's most recent game. They've clearly been working on a new game since then, and it looks like we might soon get a new Rocksteady game reveal.
The studio behind Batman Arkham Asylum, City, and Knight are currently staffing up for a big marketing campaign, and the only reason they'd be doing that is if they were ready to start showing off their big new triple-A game. The questions are then, when will it happen? And will it be a new Batman Arkham game or something different?
The various jobs can be viewed (or applied to) on Rocksteady's own website, and include Video Promo Artist and Lead Brand Artist for Marketing, as well as a Senior Producer role on the new AAA game. The video artist in particular notes that it will be for "a global marketing campaign for a very high profile, triple-A game franchise".
This has to be starting soon, and we'd heard previously that Rocksteady were hiring temporary roles for marketing and community support staff. The question is, when for? E3 would be the obvious choice, and with Sony pulling out of the show it would probably have to be at Microsoft's Xbox conference. We're betting it'll be there, and it'll go up against Marvel's The Avengers Project.
Additionally, what type of game will it be? Rumours of the new Rocksteady game being based around Superman were shot down, and the next Batman Arkham game is almost certainly in the works at Arkham Origins developer WB Montreal instead. It's likely Rocksteady's new game will still be a DC Comics game, but will probably be something closer to Anthem or Destiny if the scuttlebutt is correct.
We'll keep you posted when we know more.
