Publisher and developer Flying Squirrel Entertainment has announced that Civil War game Battle Cry of Freedom will arrive on PC in the first half of 2021, after 10 years spent in development.
Known for its work on Mount & Blade: Warband’s Napoleonic Wars expansion, the developer aims to strike “a unique balance between historical accuracy and gameplay” in Battle Cry of Freedom, which lets up to 300 players battle it out across 14 massive battlefields inspired by real locations across North America.
After siding with either the Union or the Confederacy, players get to pick between “dozens of classes,” each with its own loadout and role to fulfill. As an infantryman, you’ll get to fight battles from the frontlines, while elite sharpshooters provide supporting fire.
Drummers help raise morale, while Engineers construct barricades, dig trenches, and rig explosives. The title also boasts 120 unique weapons, 70 different types of ammunition, as well as 20 different artillery pieces, the latter excelling at mowing down soldiers as well as leaving their mark on Battle Cry of Freedom’s destructible environments.
Dynamic time of day and weather effects see soldiers fighting through fog, rain, and storms which impact not just visibility but also ballistics. The game will also launch with a set of accessible tools that enable players to create their own maps, as well as a random map generator.
You can wishlist Battle Cry of Freedom on Steam, where you’ll also find quite a few screenshots, and watch its reveal trailer below.
