Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is less than two months away and publisher Focus Home Interactive has released the first of three planned videos discussing the combat in the upcoming RTS.
To Battlefleet Gothic: Armada veterans, things will sound fairly familiar. Battles begin with a deployment phase, where you arrange your fleet within a designated area. Maps come with their own series of obstacles which include mines, wreckage, space clouds or a fleet of space titans roaming the battlefield, which players will have to consider when moving their ships.
Battles will seemingly maintain the element of surprise found in the original. As they start, the opponent’s ships will only appear as moving red dots on the map, meaning players will have to employ the use of probes for scouting. Some factions can make use of technology to fully conceal their ships, while others will have to resort to using terrain to hide elements of their fleet.
Battlefleet: Gothic: Armada 2 includes all 12 factions from the tabletop game, all of them with distinct playstyles. Drukhari Pirate fleets rely on hit-and-run tactics, Chaos ships strike from afar using devastating lances while Tyranids may have a slight preference for ramming and chomping on the opposition. “Even those that share similarities such as the Aeldari Corsairs and Asuryani Craftworlds or the Tau Protectorate Fleet and Merchant Fleet have differences in what they can field.”, the announcement post reads.
The UI has also received a facelift, while just one look at the trailer reveals gorgeous ship models and excellent, massive backdrops for engagements. This first video, which you’ll find below, comes ahead of the first beta phase that’s taking place from December 5 to December 12. Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is set to release on PC on January 24, 2019.
