UPDATE, April 3: Borderlands 3 is now confirmed as coming out as an Epic Games Store exclusive, as GameWatcher predicted a while ago. A leaked video ad for the game proves that the Borderlands 3 release date will be in September - and there is a Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store exclusivity deal.
Earlier this week a now-removed tweet revealed key information on why this may be the case.Borderlands 3 leaked release date was also part of the reveal, and all this comes as a seemingly accidental showcase, as related materials to that have since been nuked. However, the video's still up, and it confirms the release date and the Epic Games Store deal.
The video was posted by user Vestan on ResetEra, which is a French ad for the game that clearly went up early on YouTube. It confirms the release date as September 13, sooner than we previously expected.
It also confirms, with the logos at the end of the video, that Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store, and will not appear on Steam - at least, at launch. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has suggested that the Epic store exclusivity may last six months, which is half the time Metro Exodus, Phoenix Point, and a number of other games were down for.
This video confirms that evidence from the tweet earlier this week, which was quickly screenshot by apt viewers, which revealed the two claims that are being made about the eventual release of Borderlands 3. While the tweet outright stated that the game will be coming out on 13th of September, the pre-order trailer also showcased an Epic Games Store logo in the lower left corner, making people believe that the game will see an exclusive launch there.
Now, the thing to keep in mind is that none of this is particularly surprising. Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox, has been suggesting that Borderlands 3 will come out exclusively on EGS for a while now, though the reveal may disappoint those who were hoping to play the game on Steam at launch.
This is all expected to be confirmed later today as Gearbox and 2K promised more information about Borderlands 3 on April 3, so we'll keep you posted. As far as we're concerned though, the September release date and Epic Games Store exclusivity is no longer a rumour - it's a confirmed leak.
