Borderlands 3 is one of the biggest releases of the year, and it has been performing admirably well, despite the fact that some people have been reporting various performance and optimization-related issues.
According to Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO, Borderlands 3 has had about twice as many players at launch as its predecessor, which puts the number at about 250,000 concurrent players, by our calculations. No small feat, that’s for sure.
Borderlands 3 Player Count
“Fun Fact: On PC, the data is that the launch day peak concurrent players of Borderlands 3 is about twice-as-high as the all time peak concurrent players of Borderlands 2,” said Pitchford in a recent Tweet. Checking Steam Charts for Borderlands 2 tells us that the all-time peak (at launch) is 123,596 players, which means that Borderlands 3 must have had nearly 250,000 players playing it on launch.
Of course, since Borderlands 3 is an Epic Store exclusive, there’s no real way for us to confirm the number provided by Pitchford, but considering the popularity of the franchise, it does sound about right.
This continues the trend of Epic Store exclusives selling well, if the data we get is to be believed. Metro Exodus, too, saw a relatively successful launch, if we compare its stats to those of its predecessor. We’re sure Borderlands 3 will continue to enjoy a healthy concurrent player number, so stay tuned for more news on this exciting release from Gearbox.
