Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 may well have just been teased by Infinity Ward's Communications Manager via Twitter. A familiar skull motif popped up in a creepily-rendered gif making fans believe that this is what's coming next for the popular FPS franchise.
COD: Ghosts 2 would certainly not be all that big of a stretch, considering how quickly the title was dropped in favour of different and - dare we say - flashier settings, even though the game ended with a bit of a tease and a veritable cliffhanger.
Ashton Williams, the acting Comms Manager of Infinity Ward, the original developers of Call of Duty: Ghosts, has tweeted the gif in question earlier today without anything that would resemble additional, sensible context. In other words, this all may mean virtually nothing for the series, but the imagery depicted here is definitely highly reminiscent of Ghosts' signature insignia.
The other theory is that the gif references the character of Ghost from Modern Warfare 2 instead, and an offshoot game where the beloved operator would act as the primary protagonist may not be a stretch, either.
That said, take all of this with nary a pinch of salt, as it may well not amount to anything at all further down the line. Tantalising, however, it very much is, and we can always theorise about what's going on before official confirmation is out.
