Civilization VI Gathering Storm has been the object of our attention here at Game Watcher for quite some time, as our reporting on the mysterious Civilization stream will attest!
Now, we can finally confirm our suspicions: Gathering Storm is indeed the name of the second, and largest, expansion pack for Civilization VI yet, and it introduces challenges that have never before been seen in a Civilization game, such as active geology and climatology!
Firaxis promise for Gathering Storm to introduce a whole new set of gameplay variables to the classic mechanics of Civilization we've come to know and love over the long years we've spent with the franchise.
The new features include an active, ever-changing planet to contend with, which will bring about volcanoes, flooding, droughts, massive storms, and more for players to try and tackle. The Global Climate system will have us fight against the melting ice sheets and the resulting rise of sea levels, which will, in turn, force us to make use of the new engineering projects and research.
To try and unify the clamouring nations in the face of inevitable environmental collapse, Gathering Storm will introduce the World Congress for everyone to make their voices heard. Whether that will help, however, is anyone's guess...
Gathering Storm will also introduce new civilizations and leaders, unique units and buildings, new scenario modes, new civics, world wonders, districts, and too many other assorted improvements to account for.
Civilization VI: Gathering Storm is set to come out next year, on 14th of February, and will be priced at $39,99, so there's plenty of reason for us to get hyped up already. It's really not that far away!
