Racing game series Grid is making a comeback later this year, publisher and developer Codemasters revealed today. The title has a release date of September 13 and is headed to PC, Xbox One and PS4.
Simply titled Grid, the fourth entry in the series, which itself continues what Codemasters started with the TOCA games, brings back its trademark handling that steps into simulator territory without alienating arcade-inclined players.
Grid will put players behind the wheel of cars from categories such as GT, Touring, Stock, Muscle and Super-Modified, which they can race through famous cities and race tracks across all four continents. In terms of race types, players can expect to compete in Circuit, Street Racing, Ovals, Hot Laps, Point-to-Point, and World Time Attack.
As in past Grid titles, winning races and progressing through the tiers earns players liveries, teammates, accolades and player cards. The title’s realistic damage model means that missing a turn can translate into worse handling and performance. Colliding too much with an AI player will also make it so that they might feel inclined to return the favor.
Former Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso both played the role of Race Consultant in Grid’s development and appears in-game, taking on players in the Renault R26 F1® during a final showdown event. On PC, Grid will be available both physically and digitally, through Steam. Check out the announcement post on the publisher’s website for all the details.
