There’s no shortage of war and intrigue in Crusader Kings 3. Rulers come and go, nations rise and fall, and suddenly your naked uncle becomes your realm’s most capable warrior. But if you’d like to take a break from the game’s brand of medieval shenanigans, mods like Realms in Exile, which recently received its 2.1 Update have got you covered.
CK3’s Realms in Exile mod is actually based on The Lord of the Rings, which is a setting that fits Paradox’s grand strategy game like a glove. You can opt to play as Sauron and take over Gondor, or protect it as Denethor during one of its scenarios, where the other focuses on Rohan, which itself is being attacked from multiple sides.
Realms in Exile’s 2.1 Update might not be major, but marks a step towards making the mod better while ensuring its compatibility with Crusader Kings 3’s Azure Update 1.4. To this extent, Uruk Men at Arms have been added alongside Uruk buildings when playing as evil Saruman.
New Gondorian helmets have also been added to the Barbershop, just in time for the Civil War event that sparks the conflict upon Aragorn’s return.
A new series of anti-Sauron faiths can now also be established, while those pesky rebellious Nazgul have been dealt with and should be subservient once more.
The list of changes introduced in Update 2.1 goes on, and you can read it all on Realms in Exile’s Steam Workshop page.
This CK3 Lord of the Rings conversion is one of several that made our list of the best mods for the popular grand strategy title, which has quite a sizeable modding scene, despite being less than one year old. If you’re wondering why that might be, our review should answer your question.
