Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Paradox Development Studio today revealed that grand strategy game Crusader Kings 3 has sold 2 million copies since release, making it one of the fastest titles in its portfolio to do so.
Crusader Kings 3’s first major expansion, Royal Court, has also performed very well, reaching one million copies sold in just a bit over a month since launch.
“Two million is a huge milestone for us on the Crusader Kings team,” said Game Director Alex Oltner. “It’s a strong vote of confidence from the community at large, and we’re overjoyed that our games can reach such a wide audience.”
Oltner also noted that the studio has “big plans” for Crusader Kings III going forward, but didn’t share any details as to what awaits in the future.
The grand strategy game launched to both critical and fan acclaim thanks, in part, to its improved UI and onboarding capabilities alongside its vast potential for emergent storytelling.
The base game sold more than 1 million copies by mid-November 2020, less than two months after it was released.
Despite it performing well, Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court saw players divided over its higher base price, which some considered to be too steep for what it offered. The publisher later confirmed that it would remain “flexible” when it comes to its pricing policy.
Aside from having plenty of content to keep you busy for hours on end, the base game and its expansion also have an active modding scene whose offerings range from small tweaks to its core formula to complete overhauls.
Crusader Kings III is also headed to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 later this month, on March 29.
