Although it was one of the more divisive pieces of post-launch content that Crusader Kings 2 received, the Sunset Invasion DLC still has fans who enjoyed dipping their toes into alternative history as invading Aztecs gobbled up everything around them.
And, while it didn’t make it as a feature at launch, Crusader Kings 3’s Sunset Invasion mod aims not just to bring back the DLC but also expand upon its features.
“The key point is that you, as a ruler independent or one vassalised by Tonalquizayan (the Nahua name for the continent, and the Euro-African name for the Nahua colony on the continent), have a defined relationship with the invading empire.” creator KeizerHarm explains.

They go on to describe this relationship as “half-way between the Grace mechanic from CK2: Jade Dragon, and the morality system from Bioware games”.
This means that Crusader Kings III’s Sunset Invasion mod has you juggling two new resources: Amity and Respect. As an example, maxing out Amity might get you invited to feasts very often but the Aztecs won’t hold back from messing with your plans.
Although you’re free to choose between being friendly or hostile to the invaders, the former path has the lion’s share of content attached to it, giving your ruler options like visiting the Aztec capital.
As with many other Crusader Kings III mods, Sunset Invasion is still in development. New content will be added to it in the coming months.
