Dark Souls: Prepare to Die hasn't got all that many popular mods, but those who are in-the-know will know that there are a few releases developed by extremely dedicated modders which will almost completely revamp how the game plays.
Dark Souls: The Breath of the Soul is one such mod, and it's taken upon itself the task of making Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition play more like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This bit of subtitle bonanza aside, Breath of the Soul does exactly what it's set out to done, which is immensely impressive.
Inspired directly by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Breath of the Soul mod aims to just about completely revamp the core gameplay loop of Dark Souls by implementing gameplay features that made Breath of the Wild as interesting as it was upon release. Much to everyone's chagrin, this does not include climbing.
Instead, Dark Souls Breath of the Soul mod introduces mostly combat and loot-related alterations to the regual Souls-like formula we've come to know and love. This includes making weapons much more fragile to facilitate a different take on combat, forcing you to switch between armaments much more often. Additionally, enemies drop weapons much more often now, and there are new ways to repair them, too.
Mod also adds different enemy placements, entirely new items and altered gameplay mechanics, different boss lootdrops, different classes and starting gifts, more exploration (with altered bonfire locations), different dialogue, and lots more, according to the creator.
