DayZ began its life as one of the first open world survival experiences and it made its name as a zombie survival mod in the hyper realistic ARMA 2. Bohemia Interactive later announced they were hiring the developer to turn it into a standalone game back in 2012.
The game recently joined Xbox game pass which has seen hundreds of thousands of new players trying it out. To capitalise on this, DayZ is having a free weekend on Steam. This will run from May 21st to May 25th and include a 40% discount on the base game and 20% on the Livonia DLC.
DayZ Free Weekend On Steam: May 21st - May 25th
Some of the key features include:
- No checkpoints or saves, so when you die, you lose everything.
- A complex and authentic survival mechanic, including hunting, crafting, building, health preservation, and resource management.
- Unpredictable and often emotional interactions with other players.
- A huge 230 km2 map.
- Up to 60 player servers.
The free weekend is also available on Xbox One and the PS4, with the Playstation event running until May 27th. Both consoles feature the same discounts as on the PC. Download it for free on Steam.
