DayZ’s update 1.27 is now live on the PC experimental branch, its patch notes revealing multiple improvements to both the content in the Frostline expansion as well as the base game.
Additional loot locations on Sakhal’s eastern coast count among the changes included in DayZ’s experimental patch 1.27, while Burukan island should be a bit more dangerous to navigate thanks to a reduction in the number of trees covering it.
DayZ Update 1.27 Experimental Branch
The southern island of Shantar now has a new major point of interest in the form of a shipwreck, while snow falling off trees when interacting with them should aid overall immersion.
Static outdoor thermometers then let anyone adventuring throughout Sakhal check the temperature and potentially uncover the reason why they might feel a little colder than usual.
As far as more general updates go, DayZ’s update 1.27 introduce a host of audio changes to the experimental branch. Here is how developer Bohemia Interactive describes them:
- We heard your feedback regarding the boat audio and overhauled the audibility from both close-up and far points of view.
- We balanced the audibility of character footsteps by boosting the middle range so they would be more audible and not get lost in the mix of the environment’s sounds. Some surfaces (like forests) now have the additional sound effect of stepping on clutter.
- Adding to the intensity of your survival struggles, you can now hear your character’s teeth chattering while they’re cold.
- Bullet cracks were reworked and all submachine guns had their shot and tail sounds updated.
- Sakhal also received a number of tweaks to environment sounds. An example of this would be the fact that when a character walks through an evergreen tree (with branches on the ground), it will make a sound. We believe this is going to be a healthy change to PvP interactions, particularly on Sakhal where these trees are plentiful.
If you’re used to easily making friends with the cows, goats, and sheep of the land, you’ll now find them more likely to run away.
The full list of changes currently available on the experimental branch as part of DayZ’s update 1.27 can be found in the patch notes on the official forums.
Following a period of testing and receiving feedback, they should eventually be pushed to the live branch, adding to the enjoyment (or suffering) of anyone who owns the game.
