Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was unveiled during The Game Awards 2022 as the working title of Kojima Productions’ next entry in the acclaimed action-adventure series, instantly sparking questions about its release date and whether or not we can expect it to launch on PC.
The game’s first teaser trailer gave us a look at the surreal environments alongside faces both familiar and new, while showcasing the power of the Decima engine.
Here is everything we know about Death Stranding 2, including its release date, story, gameplay, whether or not we can expect it to launch on PC and more.
Death Stranding 2 Release Date
Death Stranding 2’s release date is currently set for 2025, as revealed during February 2023’s PlayStation Showcase. Sony and Kojima Productions officially announced a 2025 PS5 release date with an extended gameplay trailer.
While a PC version hasn’t been confirmed, the original Death Stranding eventually was released on PC, so we can expect the same for its sequel. It’s possible we may not see it until 2026.
Speaking during a recent special stage presentation for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Hideo Kojima confirmed that the release date will be revealed in 2025.
“I haven’t said the release date today, but the release date has already been decided, and I’m currently working on it in preparation for that.” said Kojima.
“Since we are talking about 2025, it will be released next year, so we will announce it at some point next year. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we cannot announce it today.”
Death Stranding 2 Story
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’s story features familiar and new characters, with Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile set to return.
It will pick up some time after the original game, exploring more of its intricate world and possibly touching upon new themes as it heads beyond the United Cities of America. It also seems to introduce an ominous new villain who wields a guitar capable of shooting lightning when played.
Death Stranding 2 Gameplay
Death Stranding 2’s gameplay hasn’t been detailed thoroughly so far. Since it’s a sequel, it will likely rely on the original’s formula while, hopefully, building upon it in interesting new ways.
We’ll certainly learn more about how exactly it plays over the coming months, as the developer begins sharing specific details about the project.
Is Death Stranding 2 Coming to PC?
Death Stranding 2 doesn’t seem to be coming to PC; at least not right away. So far, its marketing has focused entirely on the title’s PlayStation 5 version, which will be published by Sony.
As disappointing as this is, it’s worth keeping in mind that the first entry in the series was a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive but did end up launching on PC eight months after its console version became available.
The original’s Director Cut is also available on PC, which makes us believe that we might be looking at a similar approach for Death Stranding 2.
Where can I buy Death Stranding 2 and how much does it cost?
Death Stranding 2 will be available on the PlayStation Store whenever its PS5 version launches, but there’s no word on its price yet.
