The Fortress of Doom acts as the Doom Slayer’s home base and exploring it can uncover a fair share of easter eggs, like the old PC in his “office” that asks for a secret unlock code.
But what is the secret unlock code and what surprises does the old PC in the Fortress of Doom have in store for players who crack it? Here’s what we know.
Doom Eternal Fortress of Doom Old PC Secret Unlock Code
The Fortress of Doom is anything but small and the Doom Slayer’s office housing the old PC where you input the secret unlock code isn’t part of the game’s critical path; we ourselves bumped into it by accident while purposefully exploring the Fortress.
To reach it, take the semicircular stairs going down from the area in which you usually pick up and set off on Doom Eternal’s missions.
Keep hugging the wall until you can see a rotating structure in front of you. Walk around it, go through the door that opens once you’re near it and you should find yourself in the office.
On the right, you’ll notice the old PC. Interacting with it lets you choose between two files, as pictured above. The file on the left reads “Doom installation” and informs you of how many disks you’ve installed.
We’re not quite sure what progresses the installation, as with the entire campaign completed we’re sitting at 8 out of 14 disks, but we do know it unlocks a shortcut to playing the original Doom on that very PC.
The file on the right is the one requiring the secret unlock code. Reddit user nuriel16 has found the code to be flynntaggart, a reference to the Doom Slayer’s name in the original Doom novels.
Entering the (not so secret anymore) unlock code does lead to a Doom II icon popping up where the right file previously was. Initially, pressing Enter in an attempt to open Doom II only resulted in Doom Eternal closing.
That has since been fixed in a small patch which means that players can finally access the full version of Doom II from the Fortress of Doom.
Doom Eternal is out now on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia and happens to be <a href”https://www.gamewatcher.com/reviews/doom-eternal-review/13169”>a total blast</a>.
