Dying Light 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year and, as its February launch draws closer, publisher and developer Techland continues to share details about what awaits us when we finally begin hacking, slashing, and parkouring our way through zombies. The latest tidbits that have caught the community’s eye involve its length and how long it takes to complete.
The most dedicated Dying Light 2 players will apparently have to spend a fairly astounding number of hours playing if they plan on reaching 100% completion, according to the developer. At the same time, those who simply want to go through the story and side quests also have quite a bit of content to experience.
In a tweet, Techland claims that Dying Light 2 will take 500 hours to complete, as long as you’re aiming for that fabled 100% completion mark. That’s, apparently, almost as long as it would take you to walk from Warsaw to Madrid.
Playing through the game’s story and side quests should take considerably less – 70-80 hours “if you’re not in a rush” – but still puts it in the company of sprawling AAA RPGs, at least length-wise.
This has prompted questions from fans wondering how much of those 500 hours will be spent chasing down collectibles, while others are worried that the team might have focused too much on quantity over quality.
Techland itself admits that “not many people” will make reaching 100% completion a goal, although we’ll have to wait until the title launches next month to see if players might prove the developer’s claim wrong.
The developer later clarified that getting to the end of the main story without will take players 20 hours, while 500 hours are required do “max out the game with all main and side quests, choices and endings, checking every place on the map, every dialogue and finding every collectible.”
Dying Light 2 is slated to launch on February 4, 2022 and headed to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. If you plan on taking advantage of Nvidia’s ray-tracing tech, you’ll need a fairly beefy rig.
