As you make your way across Villedor, helping its inhabitants and bringing Aiden closer to his goals, Dying Light 2 gives you access to multiple skills and abilities that make the protagonist more efficient both in terms of combat and parkour capabilities.
There are also quite a few Dying Light 2 skills and abilities to unlock, so much so that Aiden can still learn new tricks even as you head into the final chapters of the main story.
Dying Light 2 Skills and Abilities
Dying Light 2’s skills are split into two separate trees: Combat and Parkour. The game tracks experience separately and awards it passively as you run across rooftops and fight enemies.
Pulling off more advanced moves grants more experience and, if you head out at night, you’ll get a special bonus that gives you an extra chunk of XP.
Quests are, however, a far more reliable source for it, granting bigger flat amounts. Essentially, whether you’re going for a main quest, a secondary activity, or just roaming around Villedor to take in the sights, you will work towards leveling up.
At certain thresholds, it’s automatically converted into Combat or Parkour Points, which you can spend to purchase one of Dying Light 2’s many skills.
As you can probably tell, Combat skills make Aiden a better fighter, enabling him to stagger enemies by dodging at the right time, rendering them vulnerable, or perform a flying kick. They also let you stomp the heads of downed enemies, often killing them instantly, or fire three projectiles at the same time using your ranged weapon.
Parkour skills help Aiden climb faster, take less fall damage, allow him to run alongside vertical surfaces, or simply make him faster while sneaking.
Some of Dying Light 2’s skills are linked to each other as well as certain health and stamina levels, which you can increase using Inhibitors found in the world.
Nightrunner Tools are yet another source of Dying Light 2 abilities. They’re obtained by getting to certain main story thresholds, granting you access to a paraglider that lets you fly across Villedor, greatly enhancing mobility.
There’s also a UV flashlight you can point at zombies to hold them at bay, a , and a GRE detector that uncovers the locations of inhibitors on the map as long as you get the radio towers across the city working.
Dying Light 2’s skills and abilities might seem like they’re given out at a slow pace, but they do manage to keep both combat and traversal fresh. You’ll also notice Aiden becoming better at navigating his surroundings and dispatching enemies as you unlock them.
That’s what you need to know about Dying Light 2’s skills and abilities. For more on the game, here’s what we know about the game’s weapons and level cap.
