Earth Defense Force 5 has now been released on Steam, and there's little else to say about it, other than the fact that it absolutely is the logical evolution of the franchise, in virtually every way that counts.
A guilty pleasure for many, the Earth Defense Force games are those you play when you really want to punch out a kaiju and explode some giant insects, and the series needs very little in the way of exposition, aside from that.
For the newcomers, it's hard to put EDF into words, so let's just go back to the starting image of this article: punching out kaiju. You can do that. You can also gun down thousands of enemies with dual-wielded chainguns, explode flying saucers with microwave guns, and jetpack across ant-ravaged cities with ease.
One of the main selling points of EDF5 is its introduction of humanoid aliens to the mix, with the usual promise of more content than was available ever before. All of the game is playable in local split-screen and online multiplayer modes, with is a major draw for some players, too.
Earth Defense Force 5 is now available on Steam for €49,99, but with a 20% discount on top. If you're interested, do check it out.
