Elden Ring is one of several heavy-hitters launching this February, making gamers who’re aiming to fit them all on their schedule curious about its length. But it’s not just the games surrounding it that prompt people to wonder how long it takes to beat FromSoftware’s action-RPG.
Elden Ring’s length also comes up in discussions thanks to how it is the developer’s first open-world game. This, naturally, means that outside of taking down bosses and clearing dungeons, we’ll have quite an expansive landmass to traverse both mounted or on foot.
Elden Ring Length
Developer FromSoftware shared more about Elden Ring’s length during 2022’s Taipei Game Show, when Producer Yasuhiro Kitao unveiled how long the game’s “main route” will take to complete.
“This will differ significantly by player, but in terms of the targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours,” said Kitao. “The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay.”
The main route Kitao references likely means sticking as close as possible to the game’s main story, which may not require you to explore every corner of the Lands Between.
Side quests, dungeons, and possibly collecting as many weapons as you can will likely add quite a few hours to your playtime, should you choose to pursue them.
Elden’s Ring’s difficulty also plays into how long it takes to beat, since some players will likely have an easier time with it than others.
The title is designed to be challenging, even if dying in certain locations around the world that are deemed more dangerous will let you respawn closer to your dropped runes, which are this game’s souls equivalent.
