Publisher and developer Keen Games today released its first deep dive video for survival action-RPG Enshrouded, detailing how combat works while also sharing more about its leveling system.
Enshrouded’s combat relies on a number of familiar mechanics, like locking on to enemies, which allows you to keep them in your sights and focus your attacks on them. You can block enemy strikes regardless if you do or do not have a shield, but you’ll have to keep an eye on your stamina bar which depletes while doing so.
Enshrouded Combat Deep Dive
Properly timing parries can not only block incoming attacks but also drain an enemy’s stamina. This renders them vulnerable to a devastating finisher.
In terms of arsenal, Enshrouded features several types of weapons that cater to different playstyles. Bows allow you to keep your distance while switching between different types of arrows.
Wands quickly fire magic projectiles, staves use mana to cast more powerful magic attacks that are effective against groups of enemies, while explosives blast enemies to pieces while also creating a crater where they land.
Up close, you can choose between light weapons – such as swords – or their heavier counterparts – axes and hammers.
Enshrouded also underscores the importance of preparation prior to engaging in combat. This includes activities like resting, preparing various types of food, and concocting potions to aid you during battles.
Out in the world, you’ll encounter factions like the Fel, Scavengers, Wild Beasts, as well as various types of wildlife, each inhabiting unique areas.
You can opt to face foes head-on or use stealth to sneakily dispatch them. Your grappling hook gives you the option of quickly scaling obstacles, while the glider allows you to descend upon your enemies from above.
If neither option sounds appealing, you could simply dig your way around obstacles, taking advantage of Enshrouded’s fully voxel-based world.
As you survive and defeat opponents, you gain experience which can be used to unlock different active skills like Double Jump and Blink alongside a variety of passive skills.
Enshrouded lets you craft basic gear but legendary weapons and armor can only be obtained by exploring its world.
