Enshrouded will receive personal quest progression in the future, developer Keen Games confirmed today. In addition, the quest log will also be improved to “better communicate the state of each quest in terms of server vs personal progression.”
Although an exact timeline for when these changes might go live wasn’t provided, the developer also confirmed that work on both of them is already underway.
Enshrouded Personal Quest Progression
Enshrouded personal quest progression will not replace the existing server-based system, which has its fans. Instead, it will act as an alternative means of tackling the various tasks you must complete as you explore Embervale.
“When designing [the existing] system, we believed that the best way to enjoy Enshrouded was with a group of friends who are all working cooperatively together,” reads the Steam post delving into the matter. “However, we know that having quests completed while one player is offline might feel bad for those who feel they are missing parts of the gameplay experience.”
At its core, Enshrouded was designed with co-op in mind, the studio envisioning “one group of friends experiencing the world together—sharing bases, resources, crafting recipes, and loot.”
“Furthermore, we wanted players to be able to play together meaningfully with different groups of friends and on different servers. We developed a game environment where a new player could join a long-running server and jump into the same action as their friends. Skipping the ‘tutorial’ server quests to instead learn through conversation and cooperation, uniting the group.”
Although this approach has its supporters, plenty of players would rather complete quests and learn about the world at their own pace.
Having both options on the table is the best way to go about things as it means that neither side loses their preferred way of playing.
On a different note, we can also expect future updates to bring tools for server rights management and the ability to spawn NPCs in all our bases.
Enshrouded is available now on PC via Steam Early Access.
