Publisher and developer Crate Entertainment has shared more details about Farthest Frontier’s August update and how the medieval city builder is set to grow as its stay in early access continues.
Farthest Frontier’s August update is set to introduce a religious system that allows us to shape our own faith through newly-introduced items called relics.

Each of them comes with its own rarity and set of perks that bolster settlements in different ways.
To acquire them, we’ll have to either task villagers with excavating ruins found in the dangerous wilderness or purchase them from traveling merchants.
Farthest Frontier’s August update also expands its industry, introducing paper as a new resource that comes with its own production chain.
The Paper Mill allows us to turn flax into paper, which we can then send off to a bookbinder in order to turn the pages into books. They act as a new luxury item that the inhabitants of tier 4 homes will certainly appreciate.
Paper is also useful in libraries, which are a new source of entertainment for settlements, provided they stay stocked with enough reading materials. In addition, it is also used in Guild Halls that fuel bureaucracy. Once constructed, these buildings boost one industry in their settlement.
Given how we’re limited to having just one Guild Hall, deciding which industry to bolster sounds like a fairly significant choice.

As far as the game’s future is concerned, we can expect combat to get deeper as new raider and soldier types get introduced.
New animals are also on the way, as is full mod support through Steam Workshop. These and other upcoming features will, of course, be backed up by various quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.
