UPDATE August 3: Field of Glory 2: Medieval - Swords and Scimitars release date announced.
Publisher Slitherine and developer Byzantine Games today announced Field of Glory 2: Medieval - Swords and Scimitars as the second DLC for their historical turn-based strategy game.
After Field of Glory 2’s first DLC took players through the Reconquista, Swords and Scimitars moves to a different region of the map, focusing instead on the “Byzantine Empire and the battles that affected the Middle East between 1071 and 1261 AD.”
The DLC comes with four new historical campaigns exploring such figures as Alexios Komnenos, Manuel Komnenos, and Saladin alongside The First Crusade, an event that would shake not just the period, but history itself.
Accompanying them are 8 new historical scenarios which explore the following battles: Manzikert (1071), Dorylaeum (1097), Ascalon (1099), Sirmium (1167), Arsuf (1191), La Forbie (1244), Homs (1281), and (Kili 1299).
20 new nations are also making their way into Field of Glory 2: Medieval once the Swords and Scimitars DLC launches. Here is a list of them, as provided by the publisher:
- Arabs (Syria/Iraq)
- Armenians (Cilician)
- Bulgarians
- Byzantines (Main Empire, also Nikaia, Epiros and Trebizond)
- Crusaders
- Cypriots (Lusignan Kingdom)
- Dailami
- Fatimid Egyptians
- Georgians
- Ghaznavids
- Ghurids
- Indians (Rajput, other Hindu, Muslim)
- Khwarazmians
- Latin States in Greece
- Mamluk Egyptians
- Mongols (Ilkhanids)
- Pechenegs
- Seljuq Turks
- Serbians
- Syrian States
This, of course means that we’re also getting 35 more units to deploy on the field, 11 of which are brand new while 24 make their first appearance in Medieval.
Rounding off the DLC’s list of features are 41 additional army lists, “allowing historically realistic armies for each of the above factions and their allies at different dates during the period.” The new army lists will be usable in both Sandbox and the Time Warp mode’s custom battles.
Field of Glory 2: Medieval - Swords and Scimitars has locked down its release date to September 23.
