Co-developers Blackmill Games and M2H have announced that the latter has sold its share of the WW1 Game Series to publisher Focus Entertainment.
Spanning three games set across different fronts of The Great War, the WW1 Game Series will go on with Blackmill Games as its sole developer and Focus Entertainment as supporting partner.
Since its first game, Verdun, launched into early access back in 2013, the series has been a product of Blackmill Games’ “in-depth historical knowledge – born from childhood holidays to the Verdun area and on-site research of the different fronts –” alongside M2H’s “specialization in multiplayer game development.”
The latter studio’s decision to depart the project comes as a result of its desire to pursue other styles of games, according to a statement shared on Twitter, which also reveals that Founder and Creative Director Jos Hoebe will also remain on board as Blackmill Games CEO.
“He and the entire team behind the series are excited to bring Blackmill games to the next level with Focus Entertainment as shareholder. With many great titles in their portfolio, Focus Entertainment is not a new player to the (battle)field,” reads the statement. “They bring lots of knowledge and expertise to the table and can help Isonzo and the WW1 Game Series expand their ambitious long-term plans, all while maintaining the core values of Blackmill Games’ development philosophy.”
Isonzo, the third game in the series, explores battles that took place on the Italian Front. It is set to launch tomorrow, September 13, on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4.
