Paradox Interactive has closed Paradox Tectonic, its development studio located in Berkeley, California.
The announcement was made this morning following yesterday evening’s news that Life by You, developed by Tectonic and led by former Sims boss and Second Life CEO Rod Humble, has been cancelled.
The studio has been leading the development of Life by You since 2019 and employs 24 people.
“This is difficult and drastic news for our colleagues at Tectonic, who’ve worked hard on Life by You’s Early Access release.” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive
“Sadly, with cancellation of their sole project, we have to take the tough decision to close down the studio. We are deeply grateful for their hard work in trying to take Paradox into a new genre.” Wester concluded.
The life sim genre was starting to pick up the pace, but with Life by You now cancelled, we will have to look at a new Sims game in development from EA, Paralives from Alex Massé, and a new life sim game from Midsummer Studios CEO and former XCOM boss Jake Solomon.
We wish everyone affected by this decision the best of luck for the future.
