Publisher and developer Stardock Entertainment today announced that 4X strategy game Galactic Civilizations 4 has locked down its release date to later in April, following a lengthy period of alpha and beta testing.
Galactic Civilizations 4 builds upon the series existing foundation while introducing new features like multi-sector maps, Galactic Achievements, and Core Worlds to flesh out the experience of leading a spacefaring civilization to glory.
When Galactic Civilzations IV’s release date comes around, players will be able to choose from more than a dozen starting civilizations or create a custom one of their very own.
Although small-scale maps are still present in the series’ fourth entry, their multi-sector counterparts expand the potential scope of your games, offering “a true feeling of galactic conquest and exploration.” Subspace streams connect each of these sectors, allowing for travel between them.
Citizens return in Galactic Civilizations IV but are more fleshed out than they were in the previous game. They now come with individual approval ratings and you’ll want to do your best to keep them happy.
Disloyal governors who aren’t satisfied with your rule can break away from your empire and use their planet and colonies to start a new one.
Galactic Achievements then aim to solve one long-standing issue which could lead to situations where the only thing between players and victory was several hours’ worth of waiting.
This feature lets you take up challenges to earn prestige points that count towards a total necessary to win the game, translating into less grind in the final stages of a game.
The Core Worlds system looks to reduce micromanagement by no longer having players look after each conquered world. When you take over a world that’s not quite up to snuff, it will feed into one of your core worlds.
This means that you will directly oversee fewer worlds without missing out on the benefits of stretching your empire as far as possible. Furthermore, policies and executive order can now be changed and issued mid-game.
Galactic Civilizations IV’s release date is currently slated for April 26, when it arrives on PC. Check out its release trailer below.
