Gears 5 may not be a live service game as such, but that doesn’t mean the developers, Coalition, don’t have long-term post-launch support plans for it. Namely, they’ve just showcased six months’ worth of upcoming content.
While this does include new characters, maps, multiplayer modes, and more, the so-called Operations will be the bread and butter of Gears 5 in the coming months.
Gears 5 Post-Launch Content Plan
According to Coalition’s latest Gears 5 announcement, the game’s long-term post-launch support is going to be defined by Operations themselves, each of which will last 3 months. This means that ‘Operations’ are essentially Seasons with a different name. Operation 1 kickstarted with the release of Gears 5, but Coalition note that future Operations will be very content-rich, too. Here’s a taste of what’s to come:
- new Versus modes
- new maps
- new Escape Hives
- new Map Builder Tiles
- major new features
- new Characters
Each Operation will also have its own Tour of Duty with different cosmetics you can earn through in-game challenges. Keep in mind, though, that these cosmetics will likely remain permanent exclusives, too: ” If you want content from a Tour, you’ll need to earn it before the next Operation because – once that Tour is done – then so is the content inside of it,” says Coalition. This also likely includes Supply Drop items, but that’s not clear just yet.
Coalition will also be adding new items to their Supply pool every Tuesday (which is reset/refresh time), as well as a featured Escape Hive for you to master. Come October, Gears 5 will also get weekly Special Events in both Versus and Horde modes, with unique COG Heroes coming a bit later on.
Operation 2 is going to hit in December, and will bring some of the content we mentioned before, such as new Modes, Maps, and Characters, but Coalition assure us that regular Title Updates are coming between major Operations as well. This means hotfixes and the like, most probably
In any case, stay tuned for more information on Operation 2 as soon as we get it. In the meantime, enjoy Operation 1 and the current Tour of Duty.
