Avalanche Studios, the developers behind Just Cause and Rage 2, are working on their first self-published game: Generation Zero - a robot-hunting open-world game with co-op and a strong '80s vibe.
Here's everything we know about Generation Zero, including release date, screenshots, gameplay details and launch trailer!
Generation Zero Release Date
Generation Zero will launch in 2019. Other than that we have no other details. In all honesty, expect it to be late 2019 - especially if Avalanche and Bethesda's Rage 2 is due out early 2019.
Generation Zero Story Details
The game is set in 1980s Sweden. Hostile robots have taken over the countryside, and you and your friends have to survive and investigate the mystery of where they came from - and presumably, put a stop to it.
Generation Zero Gameplay Details
The game is an open-world shooter with 1-4 player co-op. Players explore a vast open world sandbox environment, where enemy machines roam the landscape and persist - if you damage them, they'll stay damaged, even if you come back to them weeks later. Players have to use guerrilla tactics to hunt down, lure, cripple and destroy the robots, and will have to loot buildings to survive. There's a proper day/night cycle and "unpredictable" AI behaviour.
Going by the trailer, Generation Zero appears to be a first-person shooter, although as characters take cover players may be able to choose between first and third-person. The game is being billed as a co-op game, although it can be played in single-player.
Generation Zero Music & Soundtrack Details
The game will also have a "dynamic" 1980s soundtrack. We don't know yet if that includes licensed songs, but the trailer's soundtrack is in the same synth style as The Terminator or The NeverEnding Story. If the only reason that the game's set in 1989 is to use this kind of soundtrack, we don't mind.
