The original Guacamelee! is one of the most iconic indie Metroidvania titles you've ever had the chance to play. Sporting a unique visual style, quirky humour and sharp, precise gameplay, Guacamelee! was a real treat, and so it's no wonder that many have been excited about Guacamelee! 2 ever since its original announcement way back when.
Good news, then, is that Drinkbox Studios, the developers of Guacamelee! 2, have just announced a release date for their much-touted follow-up release.
Set to launch on 21st of August at a price of €19.99, Guacamelee! 2 promises to deliver all of those things that have made its predecessor as much of a success as it first was, as well as to build upon the core concept even further.
Upon starting the game, players will take control over the original protagonist - Juan Aguacate - who will have to leave retirement, don his luchador mask, and fight through the world of the living, and the world of the dead, to save his family and the world.
Guacamelee! 2 promises to bring with it a slew of features and gameplay options for the players to exploit. This includes a number of new powers and abilities, such as the Eagle Boost, Rocket Kick, and Pollo Shot - all of which can be used both in and out of combat. Juan will also unlock new abilities for his chicken form, which you'll use to explore an even more epic and vibrant world than you could in the first game.
Furthermore, Guacamelee! 2 is going to deliver even larger and denser gameplay areas than was the case in Guacamelee!, as well as twice as many enemy types and a number of unique boss mobs.
To underline the new gameplay mechanics, players will employ a whole new upgrade system, where they will have to seek out so-called Trainers and complete their challenges for them to unlock new abilities.
Finally, there's also the four-player cooperative drop-in/drop-out system, so that you don't have to play Guacamelee! 2 alone. So what's not to like?
