Introduced in the Helldivers 2 Cutting Edge Warbond, the LAS-16 Sickle is an energy-based laser able to penetrate light armor. It made a splash when it launched and shook up the meta of the game for a good reason. It is a strong weapon, relatively cheap to buy (only 20 Medals in the Warbond), and a great all-around gun for any build.
Now that the weapon has been out and we have been able to go hands-on with it, here is what we think and whether or not you should use it.
Helldivers 2 LAS-16 Sickle Review
The LAS-16 Sickle is easily the best weapon in the Cutting Edge Warbond and a top weapon choice for any mission. While its initial stats might not blow you away, the gun has a lot of nice quirks and features that mean it is one of the top energy-based weapons right now.
Its biggest perk is the fact that recoil is virtually non-existent. As it doesn’t fire bullets, there is hardly any kickback upon firing allowing you to stay on target or pick enemies off from afar without many issues.
Additionally, unlike the beam-based energy weapons, the Sickle fires energy bullets which means controlling its heat cooldown is a lot easier. Mixing in other weapons and gear you have equipped can also give you more time to recover that cooldown without needing to fully replenish the energy cell manually.
The final main perk to the Sickle is that on top of the close-range capability of the energy weapon, aiming down sight can provide a precise shot, which can be used to hit enemies from afar or target weak spots. You have three scopes to choose from too (up to 100 meters) allowing for a lot of flexibility when it comes to the weapon at range.
One caveat to the weapon, however, is that it can only pierce through light armor, meaning that any Terminid or Automaton that can easily resist or block the weapon’s fire, won’t take much damage. So, you will need to use your explosives or Stratagems.
So, the LAS-16 Sickle is undoubtedly one of the top choices when it comes to all-around weapons in the game right now. While most energy-based weapons struggle the Sickle can easily hold its own and if you don’t want to rely on ranged combat with a rifle or getting up close with a shotgun, it can be a great choice.
