Helldivers: Dive Harder is the title of the unexpected content update for Arrowhead Studios’ isometric tactical shooter, and it bears a variety of new features and improvements. This is just the latest in a series of long-term improvements that the studio has started to put out relatively recently.
The Dive Harder update comes with a set of all-new content that’s available to all owners of the base Helldivers license. Expect an all-new game mode, the Proving Grounds, and big improvements to the previously rudimentary loadout feature.
Helldivers’ Proving Grounds will be a series of difficult missions that take place in urban environments, and where the players can brave global leaderboards in an effort to unlock new cosmetics and bragging rights. There are three Proving Ground missions, each of which is defined by three of its features:
- Challenge: The core objective of the mission; rescue civilians, activate SAM sites, and such.
- Modifier: Unexpected orbital bombardments, extreme fog of war, and others.
- Condition: Adds a twist to your loadout, like forcing you to use a shotgun. Wackier Conditions even randomise your weapon every time you reload.
These will ensure that the Proving Grounds are an interesting long-term playground for Helldivers who are looking for a real challenge.
A crucial Quality-of-Life improvement comes with the improved loadout system that’s part of Dive Harder. Players can now define up to three different loadout combinations as favourites, allowing them quick access to gear they enjoy most. However, there’s now a ‘random loadout’ option, too, in case you want to spice things up a bit.
Arrowhead also said that they’ve got a substantial list of tweaks and balancing changes, the patch notes to which we should expect sometime soon. Dive Harder is coming out on 25th of October, and will be made available via Steam.
