With Imperator: Rome now out, plenty of players are flocking towards Paradox’s latest title to try their hand at controlling the Mediterranean or, well, any other portion of its fairly expansive map. While most people probably take the single player approach, some might be interested in what Imperator: Rome multiplayer has to offer.
Here’s what we know about Imperator: Rome multiplayer.
Does Imperator: Rome Have A Multiplayer Mode?
<p>
Imperator: Rome does have a multiplayer mode, much like previous Paradox grand strategy titles did. Players are, however, reporting issues logging into their Paradox accounts and, subsequently, Imperator: Rome multiplayer at the time of writing (three hours following the game’s official Steam launch).
Players looking to start a multiplayer game in Imperator: Rome will have to set up a new game as they would for single player and click the Open Multiplayer Game button on the top left of the screen. Other players will then be able to join. In theory, there can be as many players as there are factions. In practice, and given the peer-to-peer nature of the connection, the number of players in a stable session is likely to cap somewhere far below the 400+ available factions.
Imperator: Rome multiplayer saves progress on the host’s PC. When players drop out, the AI takes over their faction. Not only that, but you can join ongoing sessions even if you weren’t there from the start.
At the moment, however, Imperator: Rome multiplayer is store-specific, meaning that Gog users can’t play with people who purchased the game on Steam or the Paradox Store. Paradox is currently working on a solution for the issue, which is why logging in to your Paradox account will be necessary to play Imperator in multiplayer, as stated in this post.
If you’re still on the fence about getting the title, our Imperator: Rome review might help clarify things.
