Gears 5 is out now on PC and Xbox One, which is an excellent indicator that Microsoft really are serious about releasing all its games on PC at the same time as its own console. But what if you have friends who play it on Xbox and you buy it on PC? Is there Gears 5 crossplay?
And what happens if you want to play it on both Xbox One and PC, or at least use the same save files if one of them dies in the middle of a play (god forbid)? Is there Gears 5 cross-save functionality too? Let's have a look!
Is there Gears 5 Crossplay?
If you're looking to play Gears 5 in all the different modes regardless of platform, we have very good news - there is indeed crossplay support for Gears 5! That's across all of the game's modes - Campaign (single-player or co-op), Versus, Escape, and Horde. This also goes for any maps made in the Builder mode too - and includes both Steam and Microsoft Store versions, you'll just need an Xbox account to link them.
And if you don't want to play Gears 5 with other platforms? You can disable it in the options menu for versus matches, but you can still have co-op crossplay if you're happy with that - which sounds more than acceptable.
Is there Gears 5 Cross-Save?
The Coalition hasn't forgotten about cross-saving either, as Gears 5 does indeed support cross-save across platforms - and again, as long as you have a free Xbox account you can do it across Steam or Microsoft Store. With that you can carry your progress - including multiplayer progress - across all versions of the game, on all platforms. Well done Microsoft, this is what we like to see.
