Publisher Armor Games Studios and one-man developer Glass Revolver today announced that Itta, their upcoming bullet hell boss rush game, is slated to release at some point in 2020.
Itta follows a young girl who wakes up to find her family dead. Armed with her father’s revolver and accompanied by a ghostly cat that also acts as her guide, she sets off do defeat the powerful creatures locked beneath the otherwise peaceful world that she inhabits.
Itta 2020 Release
Itta pits players against 18 distinct bosses, ranging from “hulking ancient golems to toothy horrors”. As players best the various beasts, they unlock new weapons, such as a word or long range beam and fighting styles that spice up their approach to combat.
Interestingly enough, Itta also lets players freely toggle damage multipliers and invincibility which, judging by their sound, offer flexibility in terms of the game’s difficulty.
“I started designing ITTA in late December 2016 while staying in a psych ward. I was at the lowest point of my life. ‘Itta’ is Japanese for ‘gone’. It was to be a bleak, depressing game, with no hint of levity or hope.”, Glass Revolver’s solo developer Jacob Williams said.
“Then, near the end of my stay, an older woman around 60 who had been there for the better part of a year approached me and gave me a goodbye present - a papercraft she had made earlier that day. As a reminder to myself I made her papercraft a prominent symbol in the game, dotted around the world. And as my outlook on life slowly began to change, so too did the game: I didn’t want ITTA to be devoid of light any more.”, he continued.
Itta is set to launch this year on PC and Nintendo Switch. You can check it out on Steam and in the trailer below.
