Jagged Alliance: Rage is a bit of an oddball, even for the admittedly wacky series' standards. Not only are we to expect a vastly different, cel-shaded visual style, but the game will also feature a potentially entirely different focus - that of pure survival far behind enemy lines.
Featuring Dolvich, Grunty, Shadow, and other mercenaries that players have come to know and... employ, Jagged Alliance: Rage will have the whole cast stranded at a place where there's no help to be expected at all, and where there's no way to reequip and re-engage the enemy at your own pace.
Developers promise to let players loose in the middle of a hellish jungle, and face-to-face with terrifying experimental drugs that seem to be straddling the territory of MK-ULTRA at this point. Set 20 years after the events of the original Jagged Alliance, this is planned to be a smaller and more focused experience.
Jagged Alliance: Rage will feature a two-player online CO-OP mode, as well as an element of adventure gameplay that hasn't much been spoken about as of yet. The good old Jagged Alliance gameplay is set to make a return, naturally, though with the addition of so-called 'Rage skills' - unique abilities that grow more powerful as the battle goes on.
It is interesting to note that the game is being published by HandyGames, a current offshoot of THQ Nordic who you might've previously come into contact with if you liked playing the old Java games for feature phones. Jagged Alliance: Rage is set to release this Autumn.
