Publisher and developer NeocoreGames today announced King Arthur: Knight’s Tale as its next turn-based tactical RPG.
Described as “a modern retelling of a classic Arthurian mythology story filtered through the dark fantasy tropes”, King Arthur: Knight’s Tale blends tough turn-based battles with RPG-style character progression and a dose of empire management.
Playing as Sir Mordred, Arthur’s former nemesis, you’re tasked with leading a small team of heroes and ensuring they succeed in XCOM-style battles on grid-based maps.
King Arthur: Knight's Tale Release Date
King Arthur: Knight’s Tale lets players choose from a pool of over 30 heroes spread across 5 classes. Leveling up lets you pick and improve abilities from skill trees with multiple options, while items further boost your heroes capabilities.
Each hero has their own personality, reacting to the player’s decisions. Go against their principles too often and they might even turn against you. Failing to take care of them in battle can lead to them permanently dying to the myriad of monstrosities they’ll go against.
As Sir Mordred, players must rebuild Camelot, expanding it with buildings that offer not just means of upgrading your heroes but also options for healing and better managing them. As you explore Avalon, King Arthur: Knight’s Tale will require you to make various moral choices that impact both the story and your character.
Completing the story campaign isn’t the end, either, as that’s when tougher challenges pop up, pitting you against mythic bosses while offering new loot, random quests, and avenues of progression. All this goes towards banishing Balor, god-king of the Fomorians.
King Arthur: Knight’s Tale will feature 20 story missions, side quests, 7 enemy factions, 50 types of enemy units and 10 bosses.
NeocoreGames is aiming for a Q1 2021 release on PC, via Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X. The full version of the game will be priced at $39.99 or your regional equivalent but can also be obtained by backing the game on Kickstarter for the lower price of $26.
