Publisher Team17 and developer 3DClouds today announced that pirate action-RPG King of Seas now has an official release date. Players can set sailing on May 25, when the game’s multiplatform release is scheduled to happen. If you’re feeling impatient, a demo is also now available on Steam.
Initially meant to launch in February, King of Seas’ new release date comes as a result of developer 3DClouds and publisher Team17 signing a publishing agreement that very month. This gave the studio a few more months to work on improving the title. Its demo is a welcome, previously unannounced surprise.
“In a ferocious plot you will fight to regain what has been taken away and embark on an epic adventure in a fantastic world, filled with battles, lost islands and treasures. A universe full of amazing characters and breathtaking missions will keep you anchored as you strive to become the king of all pirates,” reads a blurb on its Steam page.
King of Seas keeps pirate life interesting through the use of procedural generation that refreshes its world with each new playthrough. Calm exploration can turn into a challenge when fog rolls in, while setting out to sail during a storm could see you returning home with less of a ship.
Wind, too, is an element you’ll have to master, its direction playing a role in battles. Combat in King of Seas involves the use of cannons and more or less explosive projectiles, which are complemented by over 20 skills and three talent trees meant to suit different playstyles.
It wouldn’t be a pirate game without treasure hunts and King of Seas does give players with a knack for discovering and deciphering secret maps multiple submerged troves of shiny stuff to pursue. If that’s not your thing, there are also plenty of rewards to be obtained from primary and secondary missions alongside fishing.
King of Seas’ release date is scheduled for May 25, when it is set to launch on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. You can find its demo on Steam and check out its latest trailer below.
